Great little condo complex, good location away from the crowds. The complex itself is a series of individual owned units. 'Facilities' are limited - there's no gym, there's no BBQ. There is a small pool and laundry room. However the main plus point is it's location - right on the rocky outcrop overlooking the sea and Makaha Beach. Unit #1's 1-10 are going to overlook the beach, unit 11 will be 'primo' on the corner. We had #12 and looked to the sea, but could look out and see the beach. Units >#12 are going to have sea views. The location is perfect for sitting on the lanai and watching the surfers, or the sunset. You could also sunbathe directly on your lanai, but you're only 2 minutes from the beach itself. The one downside is the area itself. Other than the beach, there's nothing walkable, you'll be in your car for trips to restaurants, the grocery store, or further afield. But if you're looking for quiet, it's great! I took particular interest in the number of nagging signs that they had in the complex telling you not to do stuff. In reality the complex manager is quite cool, and you'll find most complexes have similar signs.
My experience of makaha shores is most likely a lot different than others. My husband and i lived there in 1973, while he waited to be shipped to Vietnam. The place has been kept up great. It looks the same on the outside just updates that i wish were there back then. We lived on the beach side and always had a great view of the surfers and people on the beach every day. We always wanted to go back and stay as guests,but have.never gotten to. This website is beautiful and it really did look like that. It is on the far side of nowhere but just depends on why your there. You cant relax more ,on that side of the island. I remember we paid $212.00 a month back then. And for those who remember when gas was rationed , well we made it through buying gas only every other day or something like that. It was an afventure we didnt appreciate at the time. But we sure would now. If theres any more Army, or navy people who lived this dream, post your experience if you were there in 1973.
